This moment exists only now and won’t come again” or “one time, one meeting” - is the very meaning of the Japanese idiomatic expression: ichi-go, ichi-e.

It is for certain that for some of you this is the first time that you have learned about this idiom, yet, its meaning is oh so familiar. All because we all live in the moment whether we like it or not. We all have a yesterday that can no longer be taken back. This quote is classically simple yet larger-than-life profound words of the wise. Who among us can dispute that this moment exists only now and is never coming back? Who has the privilege of tasting the very same moment twice or several times? Who can put hold time in his own hands?

Looking back, as a child, I would never be able to understand what it is and how to live by this saying. It is simply too much for a child to bear and comprehend such deeply-rooted thought but it will never be elusive for a child to put it into practice. It is their innocence that is naturally letting them to live by the moment. They have no other means but to live at present because they are yet to know about regrets of yesterdays and the worries of tomorrows.

This maybe is the reason why I always miss the days of my youth. Back then, I was free, nonchalant, content, assured, optimist, serene and grateful for every little thing around me. And, it doesn’t feel like so long ago. It is as if it was only yesterday.

For some reason, in the cage of my adult mind, living the moment is not as simple as it was stated. Either that I would worry about tomorrow, or, that I would regret about the things of the past. Sure I am physically living the moment but my soul is somewhere in the vast horizon of time lost and squandering life’s precious seconds. Struggle is real!

Why has it been so hard to live the moment that anyway would pass us by? Perhaps, because some of us are way too strong to resist the changes of today in our lives. We are holding so strong to who, what, where, and how we were yesterday. Maybe, for some of us it is already our glorious days. It can also be because some of us are way too weak to let go of the things we can’t control or those of tomorrow. Or, that we choose to be bland about our conviction to seize the moment for reasons only you and I would know. For whatever it is, it will remain true that life is short and that we never know how many moments will be graced upon us . Tomorrow is never a promise.

We are blessed to have shared this moment together in this article. Thank you for your time. Absolutely, we should never let a moment be taken for granted for life can be over in the blink of an eye. I pray for some of us to emancipate fully in the entrapment of yesterday and tomorrow. I pray that you and I to live in this very moment for we know it is never coming back.

It is now or never. Remember James 4:14 “You do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.
